Development of synthesizers

The development of synthesizers goes through the following path:

1. Modular Synthesizer with mono-poly (ex. Buchla 100 series)

3. Synthesizer with memory and various function (e.g. Arpeggio, chorus, …)

(ex. Roland Juno-6)

The basic function of synthesizers is to synthesize sounds. In analog synthesizers, oscillator, which is the core of synthesizers, is the key function, and in digital synthesizers, sound source ICs that control the use of waves are the most important. The development of the synthesizer can be summarized as follows:

1. Improvement of the Method of Synthesizing Sounds (Improvement of Synthesis)

2. Increased simultaneous polyphony (which doubles the synthesizer’s ability as a musical instrument)

3. Expansion of Multi-timbral (the ability to produce multiple tones at the same time)
