- In order to reduce clicks, pops, and jitter, lock the overall Sample Rate timing to a single master clock signal through the use of a single timing reference

- Word clock: the internal clocks of all the digital devices within a connected chain must be referenced to a single master word clock timing element

- A dedicated sync source

- For more reliable, less jitter & multi-directional transfers

- There can only be one master word clock reference within a connected digital distribution network
