Since March 2021, a French film composer has been getting a lot of attention for his homemade MIDI controller. The Nuances Controller is specifically made by a composer to meet the needs of professional composers and producers. It is carefully built to last for most demanding composers working with orchestral libraries. Nuances Controller is custom-made in Paris, France, and is not a mass-produced product. The unit is available in limited monthly runs only. Pierre says, "I carefully build Nuances Controllers with premium parts in my spare time. I am unable to produce more units each month, and I have no plans or desire to start mass production." The Nuances Controller is in stock and available for order only once a month for a short timeframe. The Nuances Controller is everything you want in a MIDI expression controller and nothing you don't. There are three large faders, an OLED display, a button to change MIDI CC numbers, and a USB cable in a nice wooden box. There are two versions of Nuances Controller: the Classic USB version and the USB-C version. Both versions are exactly the same internally and will work on either a standard USB computer or a USB-C computer via a Hub or an adapter (not included). Both versions will also work natively on any computer, including Apple's new silicon computers (M1/M2/M3). When working with a virtual instrument plug-in, you can use the faders for dynamics, expression, vibrato, or any parameter you like. With the Nuances Controller, you can record a melody with your right hand on a MIDI keyboard and add essential expression with your left hand. All MIDI CC (Control Change) values sent by Nuances Controller are sent on MIDI channel 1. To date, there are no other MIDI controllers purpose-built for orchestral programming at a reasonable price. For this reason, Pierre eventually decided to create his own MIDI controller for his composing works.
Additionally, Pierre offers 'Articulations for Logic Pro'for free. With this, you can have complete control over your articulations via your iPad, Android tablet, phone or computer in Logic Pro using Open Stage Control.
