The Swedish software company Twiddle Coding has recently announced the update to their major web-based application 'Mindful Harmony' — A music theory workstation web app that deepens the impact of your composition by enhancing your chord progressions and facilitating interactive learning to understand music theory concepts. With Mindful Harmony, you can discover chords across all keys and modes and experiment with great piano chord voicings intuitively. Also, you can get insightful suggestions for crafting seamless modulations between keys, adding an extra layer of depth to your song. This web app supports seamless transition to your preferred digital audio workstation (DAW) by exporting a MIDI file, so you can keep your creative momentum flowing. In a nutshell, Mindful Harmony allows you to write amazing music as well as to learn music theory concepts in the process.
The Circle of Fifths is a visual representation of the relationship between scales, arranged in a circle. Mindful Harmony features an interactive circle of fifths chart with modes. This helps visualize the relationship between scales and modes. With this circle of fifths, you can find beautiful chords in any key and make mindful decisions on the harmonic content of your composition. Mindful Harmony provides an Extensive Chord Finder and with this you can customize chords with extensions and delve into dominants, sub-dominants, borrowed chords, and more in any key. Borrowed chords are a great way to add color to your chord progressions. These are sometimes called modal interchange or substituted chord. For example, if you are writing a progression in C major, you might borrow chords from another mode with C as the root. In addition, You can intuitively rearrange chords on the provided chord grid. Simply click on chords to hear how they sound and learn how to play the chords with the piano roll.
The following features are provided in the premium version (paid version) of Mindful Harmony. With the Chord Extensions function, you can explore various voicings such as jazz, quartal, quintal, and cluster voicings. You can add ninth, eleventh, and thirteenth chords to create a more diverse and sophisticated sound with ease. Mindful Harmony Premium makes it easy to find chords for modal interchange, as well as common altered chords, Dominant chords, and Subdominant chords. Modal interchange is all about borrowing chords from a related scale. There is no set rule to mix your chords with modal interchange, so you just play around with borrowed chords in your progressions and see how they spice things up. It's as easy as a click. Mindful Harmony Premium features every scale that is a mode of Major (Ionian) scale as well as scales that are modes of Harmonic Minor and Melodic Minor scales. These all provided scales let you experiment with a broad musical palette, so you can easily write beautiful major chord progressions, minor chord progressions as well as modal chord progressions.
Sometimes, you wish to change keys multiple times within a single composition. In this case, you may use a pivot chord that fits both the key you're leaving and the one you're entering. With Mindful Harmony Premium, finding these pivot chords is a breeze. You just tap into the Auto Modulation feature for suggestions on crafting super-smooth transitions. In addition, You can create strong resolutions in your composition with a bunch of Dominant chords provided in Mindful Harmony Premium. Dominant chords naturally want to resolve into other chords, and you can slip them between any chords in your progression. With Mindful Harmony Premium, your compositions get saved in the cloud. So, for instance, you can write a chord progression on your mobile device in the train and continue at your computer when you get home. You can share your creations with others, such as band members, family, or a teacher. You can also make copies of songs shared with you and edit them.
