Perception

- A.D. = identity, character

- S.R. = tone, pitch, loudness

*When you begin mix, you should consider average level high (to avoid below-average

level)

*When recording: The higher the average recording level, the bigger the sound

*The more percussive a sound, the higher P/A ratio

(eg. snare drum P/A ratio = 30 dB, bass guitar P/A ratio = 5 dB)

▲ (b) is bigger sound than (a):

∵ Average is higher. Also SR is higher. (SR determine loudness)

*VU (Volume Unit) meter:

- Read only 'Average' (Average of signal: completely ignore peak)

- Only read average part of signal

*If you record separately a drum's parts (such as snare, kick, ride symbol, etc) then sound weaken (∵ total Average level decrease; Vice versa)
