Instruments' Sound

(such as snare)

1) Tone develops over distance

2) At close distance, the pickup emphasizes the attack, at the expense of tone

*In speakers, bass sound come from cone. (bass sound has lower freq., strong, travel long distance)

▲ Low freq. & Lower middle freq. need wider space

▲ Guitar amp: sound position

Miking point (at guitar amp):

e.g. Shure Sm 57/58 —> the front, face (in front of the amp)

e.g. Rode NT1/NT2 —> the side (edge side of the amp)

*When studio recording, louder voice may produce the poorer results at miking recording

*Studio hihats must be played most lightly as they will bleed into all drum Mics ( hihats produce most loudest sounds in drum sets)

Compressor test:

- ‘Dynamics of Mix’ ==> Show P/A ratio

- Compressing ==> More produce ‘Average’ sounds
