Anti-Aliasing Filters

- Filter for frequencies above Nyquist limit (1/2 of Sample Rate)

- If frequency is greater than 1/2 the SR, this frequency is allowed to enter into the path, Erroneous frequency - a.k.a. ‘Alias frequency’. This frequency could enter into the audible signal as false frequency => heard as harmonic distortion

- A low pass filter is placed before the AD conversion stage

▲ a. Ideal filter (theoretical filter) has infinite attenuation

b. Practical filter (real world filter): A frequency slightly higher than 1/2 sample rate must be chosen to attenuate effectively

- Steep filters are:

1) Expensive

2) have Phase distortion
