Clock Jitter

 

1. Jitter is time based error - caused by time delays in the circuit paths

 

2. Jitter: Inaccuracies in timing between digital transfers

 

3. Audio going more than 1 direction, or more than 1 channel

 

4. Solution

- Use a separated sync source

- Use a dedicated sync, such as Word Clock or ADAT Sync

 

5. Clicks, pops, loss of DR (Dynamic Range) and sound stage -> Caused by poorly timed clock sync - Only affecting monitoring

 

6. Causes

i) Poorly designed Phase Locked Loops (PLL)

ii) Waveform distortion due to mismatched impedances and reflections in the signal path
