Why Use A Click Track?

When you play accurately along with a click track, it makes editing easier because all of your tracks will fall correctly "on beat". The click track itself does not ensure accuracy but rather, your point of reference to where the beat is that allows you to be more accurate.

Furthermore, MIDI operations such as 'Quantize' and 'Groove Quantize' will only work properly if the music is played correctly in time with the metronome.

You don't have to use the metronome if you have some other accurate tempo frame of reference synchronized to your DAW such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase, Ableton, etc. For example, a drum machine or plug-in drums pattern players with a simple, solid beat could act as a substitute to the metronome.
