Distortion

Distortion:

- 'Change' of original sound (how you change sound determine what type of sound you use)

Harmonic distortion:

1. 2nd harmonic distortion adds extra even harmonics

2. 3rd harmonic distortion adds extra odd harmonics

3. THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) includes both odd & even harmonic distortion

4. 2nd harmonic distortion: a.k.a. ‘Saturation’ ==> true electronics, analog tape

5. 3rd harmonic distortion: a.k.a. ‘Clipping’ ==> solid state electronics (IC (Integrated Circuit), transistor), digital

‘Linear vs Non-Linear’:

- Linear output sound is equal to input sound (Not distorted)

- Non-Linear output sound is Not equal to input sound (Distorted sound ==> Change of original sound)
