Acoustic Implementation with Multi-Sampling

 

Sampling is the process of collecting sounds from an acoustic instrument that may have representative and main characteristics of that instrument. Then, the sampled sound is modulated to an appropriate pitch to reproduce the original sound. In order to deceive our ears, the degree of modulation must be reduced, so multiple sounds with main characteristics of that instrument are collected. This process is called multi-sampling. No matter how perfectly multi-sampling is done, it itself is just one fixed tone. This tone must move dynamically according to the player's intention and express the feeling of the instrument through the plyaer's movement. In fact, the numerous functions of a synthesizer allow you to apply modulation at various points and make appropriate adjustments, but no one can guarantee whether this multiple modulated and adjusted sound is exactly the same as the sound of an acoustic instrument. In the case of acoustic instruments that generate simple sounds, it is possible to obtain good results with multi-sampling that are almost indistinguishable from the sounds of real acoustic instruments, but in the case of string instruments and pianos, it is quite difficult to obtain good results. Regarding a piano, basically, not one string but three or four strings sound simultaneously, and when a player plays multiple notes, there are limits to realizing harmony of sound from interferences between strings with a multi-sampling technique. Of course, it is possible to create a similar atmospheric sound through simulation, but this is still not a perfect implementation of the sound of an acoustic instrument.
