Make a Chorus Effect with a Short Delay

1) Highlight a short piece of your Backing Vocal track so that a useful amount of this track will play.

(In this article, I am dealing with Mod Delay III plug-in of Pro Tools.)

You should be in Loop Playback mode as well.

2) Hit Play and make sure that the region is looping and that you have enough of the track to get a feel for its performance.

You should select at least a whole phrase.

3) When satisfied with your selection, solo this track (the Backing Vocal track).

4) Insert a Short Mono Delay at any available insert for the Backing Vocal track.

You can do all this while listening to the track.

5) Set up the delay as illustrated in the graphic above (Figure 1).

This is just to get you started. This is one example of a chorus or phase-shifter like effect.

6) Read all about how to use this Plug-in as you experiment with its parameters.

You selected a short segment of your backing vocal track to loop as you adjust the delay parameters in real-time. Note also the position of the ruler as it relates to the selection. Depth and Rate will affect the effect in a number of surprising ways. Feedback can make the effect more aggressive.
