1. Frame (rigid as possible!)

- Types (2 types)

i) stamped

ii) Cast (better)

 

- Frame ensures:

a) Linear motion of the cone (diaphragm)

b) No resonance transfer to cabinet

 

 

2. Cone (diaphragm)

- Rigid, yet Light

- Materials: paper, concrete, carbon fiber, kevlar

 

 

3. Voice coil

- Larger diameter —> more power capability

 

 

4. Magnet

- 2 types :

i) AL | NI | CO

ii) Ceramic

- ‘Heat’ is the enemy of magnets;

when heated:

a) Loses strength

b) Loses focus

c) Becomes damaged

 

 

 

 

*Size

- The diameter determines the speaker’s “Free Air Resonant Frequency”

==> This is the speaker’s low frequency cut off

- It is wavelength dependent:
