5.1 Channel Surround System

 

*'Surround sound' is the only sound we can experience binaural experience  

 

1. In 5.1 surround system, the frequency band of 5 channel speakers (Center, Front Left, Front Right, Rear Left, Rear Right speakers) is 20 ~ 20,000 Hz. The frequency band of 0.1 channel speaker (Subwoofer) is 20 ~ 120 Hz.

 

2. In 5.1 surround system, the optimal angle of position between the center speaker and the surround speakers is 120 degrees.

 

3. In 5.1 surround system, 'Bass Management' means minimizing standing waves, eliminating bass sound below 100Hz in the 5 channel speakers (C, FL, FR, RL, RR), and playing bass below 100Hz only on subwoofer. 

 

4. In 5.1 surround system, the main role of the center speaker (C) is to enable stable sound-image localization, expansion of optimal listening area, and sound-image matching between audio and video; the main role of the rear speakers (RL, RR) is to enable reproduction of spatial sense and lateral and backward sound-images.

 

5. The difference of the sounds between the two-channel stereo system and the 5.1-channel surround system is in the area of sound field, the back sound-image, and the center sound-image.
