Cut-Off filters

 

1. Hi-Pass Filter (HPF) 

- Cuts LF below turnover Frequency (-3dB point)

- Used to reduce unwanted LF, including frequency below instrument’s ability and to reduce room rumble

2. Lo-Pass Filter (LPF)

- Used to cut HF

- Reduce “Noise” (HF Hiss)

3. Notch Filter 

 

- Used to eliminate 60 Hz AC Hum

- Have very narrow bandwidth

- Can be set at any frequency

Equalization

 

1. Peaking EQ (at any frequency range)

- Has a center frequency with a specified bandwidth around it 

- Can boost or cut

- Boost between 1k ~ 5k is the presence range

- There is some phase shift with EQ

2. Shelving EQ (Only in High Frequency and Lo Frequency only)

- Has a turnover freq. (+/- 3 dB)

- Can boost or cut

- At a set number of dB it will shelve off  to the end of the frequency spectrum 

e.g.) Home Stereo Bass (100Hz) and Treble (7 ~ 10kHz) setting

3. Parametric EQ

- All peaking EQ

- In any range

- 3 ~ 9 bands

- Has level control (+/- 15 dB)

- Frequency select bandwidth control (Q)
