Filters

Filters:

- ‘Cut’ only devices

Noise:

- Thermal movement of electrons

- Heard as high frequency “hiss”

Distortion:

- Changes in waveform

* Cut-Off filters:

- Have a turnover frequency (the named frequency) at 3dB down from flat

1. Hi Pass Filter (HPF)

- Cuts frequencies below turnover

- Used to cut frequencies below an instrument’s range

- Used to remove ‘rumble’ (vibrations in a room caused by massive each movement that moves the floor)

2. Low Pass Filter (LPF)

- Cuts HI’s above its turnover frequency

- Used to cut noise (High frequency hiss)

* Frequency Range (Frequency Response):

- The frequency response of a device describes the relationship between the device's input and  output with regard to signal frequency and amplitude

*Slope:

- Rate of decline in decibels per octave (dB/Oct)

* Notch Filter:

- This is Not a cut-off filter

- User defined frequency select with detents (click stops) at 60, 120, 180 Hz to remove 60 Hz AC Hum with a very narrow bandwidth
