Exploring Synthesis (2): Karplus-Strong Synthesis

Karplus-Strong synthesis, developed by Kevin Karplus and Alexander Strong, is a type of physical modeling for creating very realistic string instrument sounds. Karplus-Strong synthesis once creates a unique pluck sound of a string instrument and continually calculates this sound by receiving spectral change data resulting from the resonance of the string through a filter. Karplus-Strong synthesis demonstrates excellent performance in reproducing the sounds of musical instruments such as strings and drums. The sound of a pluck, pick, or hammer can be reproduced with any type of instrument, regardless of its intensity, and regardless of the length or position of the strings. By using this synthesis, it is possible to reproduce what kind of string instrument is played, at what intensity, and at what distance.
