The Analog String sound has a rich harmonic contents and was the most popular tone among the vintage synthesizer sound patches. The sawtooth wave is rich in harmonics, but it makes it easy for the listener to feel bored with repeated tone. You can make a lively sound by changing this repetitive tone of the sawtooth. You need to make the sharp part of the sawtooth a little softer, and you can make a phase by putting a wave on the repetitive waveform of the sawtooth. To satisfy these things, two sawtooth waves must be combined in certain conditions.
(a) Analog Strings
- The same two sawtooth waves are combined into the same octave
- Detune the two sawtooth waves to make a beat (at this time, make sure the beat doesn't get too fast)
- The output of each sawtooth is specified in different values. Next, the pan (panpot) is specified (one is left, the other is set to right)
- Set the amplitude and filter EG as shown below (↓)
- Set one of the two layers to be slightly late in time
*Key Points in making Analog Strings sound with two sawtooth waves:
1. Two sawtooth waves form a phase, which must be set to stereo
