Vocal Settings for Recording

 

1. EQ chart for Vocal recording

Frequency Range Characteristics
Below 80 Hz

Bottom

*Cut this area of frequency using High Pass filter if you don't want rumble low-end resonance

80 - 350 Hz

Body

*Boost this area of frequency if you need thickness of vocal sound

350 - 1 kHz

Nasal

*Boost this area of frequency if you need a nasal voice

*Cut this area of frequency if you want smooth vocal sound

1 - 2 kHz 

Warmth

*Boost this area of frequency if you need warm vocal sound

*Cut this area of frequency if you want distant vocal sound

2 - 7 kHz

Clarity

*Boost this area of frequency if you need clear vocal sound and presence

7 kHz - 16 kHz

Air

*Boost this area of frequency if you need high-frequency vocal hiss

 

 

 

 

2. Compression settings for Vocal recording

Parameters Characteristics
Attack time

Fast ( < 5ms)

*It depends on Tempo. The tempo is faster, the attack time is shorter (vice versa).

Release time

Various (Around 40 ms)

*It depends on Tempo. The tempo is slower, the release time is longer (vice versa).

Ratio

1.5:1 ~ 4:1

*You can adjust ratio setting depend on the dynamics of the song

(More dynamics, higher ratio / Vice versa)

Threshold

-24 ~ -8 dB

*You can lower threshold level if you need more compressed vocal sound
