Drums Settings for Recording (2):

Snare Drum 

 

1. EQ chart for Snare Drum recording

Frequency Range Characteristics
Below 100 Hz

Bottom

*Cut this area of frequency using High Pass filter if you don't want rumble sound

100 - 300 Hz

Body

*Boost this area of frequency if you want full body of snare drum sounds (Fatness)

500 Hz - 1 kHz

Resonance

*Boost this area of frequency if you want resonance of snare drum (wood crack sound)

1 kHz 

Attack

*Boost this area of frequency if you want attack sounds of snare drum

5 kHz - 10 kHz

Clarity

*Boost this area of frequency if you want to bring about clarity of snare drums

 

 

 

 

2. Compression settings for Snare Drum recording

Parameters Characteristics
Attack time

1 ~ 4 ms

*Faster attack times may kill the transient of snare drum sound so make the sound dull

Release time

200 ms

*It depends on Tempo. The tempo is slower, the release time is longer (vice versa).

Ratio

4:1 ~ 6:1

*You can adjust ratio setting depend on the dynamics of the song

(More dynamics, higher ratio / Vice versa)

Threshold

- 10 dB ~ 

*You can lower threshold level if you want more compressed snare sounds
