Toms 

 

1. EQ chart for Toms recording

Frequency Range Characteristics
Below 50 - 60 Hz

Bottom

*Cut this area of frequency using High Pass filter if you don't want booming sound

100 - 300 Hz

Resonance

*Boost this area of frequency if you want low resonance of toms

500 Hz - 1 kHz

Muddy Spot

*Cut this area of frequency if you want clearer sound of toms

2  - 3 kHz 

Attack

*Boost this area of frequency if you want attack impacts of toms

5 kHz - 10 kHz

Air

*Boost this area of frequency if you want to bring about crisp sounds

 

 

 

 

2. Compression settings for Toms recording

Parameters Characteristics
Attack time

2 ~ 4 ms

*Faster attack times may kill the transient of tom sound so make the sound dull

Release time

200 ms

*It depends on Tempo. The tempo is slower, the release time is longer (vice versa).

Ratio

4:1

*You can adjust ratio setting depend on the dynamics of the music

(More dynamics, higher ratio / Vice versa)

Threshold

- 5 dB ~ 

*You can lower threshold level if you want more compressed sounds
