1. Cardioid/Bi-directional microphone

 

a) Proximity effect

At close distance, 8” (inch) or less, the Mic will exhibit extra sensitivity to low frequency (see Top picture)

 

b) Pattern breakdown

All patterns are frequency dependent

i) At low frequency, the pattern becomes omni

ii) At high frequency, the pattern tightens
