Acoustics on Microphone (1)

1. When both Bidirectional and Unidirectional microphones are used close to the sound source, the output of the bass sound is increased. This effect is so called "Proximity effect". This effect is greater in bidirectional microphones than in unidirectional microphones. This proximity  effect is inevitable when picking up sounds at a close distance using a directional microphone. However, in case of vocal recording, this effect can be used to emphasize bass sounds by placing  a  microphone close to the mouth or, on the contrary, to record clear and sharp voices by keeping  the microphone away from the mouth.

2. Condenser microphone is a microphone suitable for picking up instrumental sounds of fast attack.

3. Consider the following points when miking:

a) Find a location that sounds acoustically good before miking.

b) It is better to cut below the fundamental frequency of the instrument sound by using filter.

c) It is better to record with as few microphones as possible.

4. Common characteristics of vocal microphones as follows:

a) Insensitive to handling noise

b) Sound below 100Hz is rolled off

c) Insensitive to wind noise

5. Omnidirectional microphone is a microphone suitable for picking up the acoustic atmosphere of a particular room.
