Dynamic Processor (2)

Typical uses of dynamic processors:

1) To protect gear from damage

2) To prevent peaks that would cause unwanted distortion

3) To even out volume changes (leveling amplifier)

Parameters

1) Attack (ms):

- how fast the device reacts to a high level sounds

2) Release (μs):

- how fast the device goes back to normal after a high level sound ends

3) Threshold (dB):

- The point (in level) at which the device starts to do its job

4) Ratio (?:?):

- The relationship of input level to output level

(e.g. If you get 3 louder, I’ll let you get 1 louder is a 3:1 ratio)

5) Output (Also called 'Gain make-up')

- Just a fader for sound coming out to raise the overall level back to a good level
